Fast: Day 8

It's been 8 days since I started fasting. I began preparing my body before then by eating smaller meals, missing a few, and just getting my mind accustomed to the hunger I might begin to feel. So let's back up a little bit. Abe... why are you fasting again?

To tell that story, it's important to understand that this is not a paved road. This is a journey. There is no end goal. We are only seeking healing. I welcome you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for walking with me on this journey towards self healing.

Around 2012, I heard of a man from the jungles of Africa who had found a cure for AIDS and he was curing all these people who could not afford the pharmaceutical prices for medicines that never seemed to cure them -- only "treat" the disease.

In the midst of returning from journeys that have deeply touched and moved my heart. I heard about the passing of the great Dr. Sebi.

I remembered that he was the guy I had previously heard about and I wanted to check out if there was any information on him on youtube or anywhere, I mean this is the man who they said cured AIDS???!!! I had to check it out -- even if it turned out to be a conspiracy theory, my interest was just peaked and I wasn't going to be satisfied until I did some heavy web surfing.

Just to back track a sec. Some of the beautiful places that I said deeply touched and moved my heart, I'll mention below because it's crucial to understand that for me - this is connected with my journey towards healing myself. We had the grace of being able to visit the Black Hills of the Lakota nation in South Dakota, to stand with Standing Rock, to bear witness to the indigenous, Latinx, and un/ documented family being incarcerated at Eloy Detention Center in Phoenix, AZ, with Witness Against Torture family to crossing the border separating Nogales, Mexico and The Empire of The United States with School of The Americas Watch.

So after having all this beautiful energy of love, resistance, and revolution inside me, I came home. And I don't know why but I started checking out this Dr. Sebi. Little did I know that I would begin to embark on a beautiful journey :)

The core of what I learned from studying Dr. Sebi is that our body's are built to function best on an alkaline vegan diet or consuming "electric food" for an "electric body." Being the biggest carnivore in the world I could imagine, Dr. Sebi inspired me to stop eating meat, dairy, and starch.

I began experimenting with some of the herbs he recommended and have been delighted since in the switch in my food consumption and in the integrating of these new herbs into my body.

Moving to a few weeks ago, I felt more deeply than ever the need to seek clarity. Part of me says that I don't know what it is, that I'm not really sure what is calling or pulling me - but the exact opposite is also true. What I began this journey seeking is healing. Clarity. Clarity of my mind and of my body. Being able to be present to myself, and to the world, to feel re-harmonized, in tune, and aligned to our Mother, to the planet, to nature.

I have taken this opportunity throughout my fast to contemplate on the beautiful quote by Rumi, "You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens."

I will take this opportunity as a spiritual form of gong-fu, to purify my own acidic thinking, acidic and poisonous thoughts as the discomforts of hunger, pain, fatigue, irritation, anger, and trauma flow in and out of my body in this detoxing and purifying process. I will use this fast as a tool to do what I think is critical and revolutionary for myself - to heal, to refine, to fall deeper into love and compassion.

I know that this is a special prayer I must embark in for myself. And it is with so much pride, and I was so honored, truly blessed to have begun this fast in solidarity and with the blessing of The Immokalee Coalition of Farm Workers for FAIR WAGES and the Students at Ohio State University. We rocked out in Columbus, Ohio with our family to protest Wendy's resistance to support fair wages for workers. Several workers and students held fast for 7 days+, and I myself am having the supreme joy to join them in fast as we speak. I would like to thank them for allowing me to begin this journey with them as part of my intention.

With the intention of Love. Love for our Being. Our Vessels. Love for our Loved Ones and those who nourish us. Love for all Families and all peoples. Love for all creatures and all Life.

With that said, I have to run to keep my schedule because The Peace Poets will be rocking live and direct with so many beautiful artists at BAM maƱana! And as part of my regimen, fasting does not mean slacking. It means self care and love, and nourishment, and safety. It also means when your body adjusts, learn your new limits, grow with them. Tomorrow I have another 45 min work out, and 2 shows at BAM! Let's get it familia! Let's see how the guys fasting looks on stage? Walking on Water? Just a little ;)
